Becoming a Spiritual Awakening Coach

spirituality as depicted by an ethereal ocean and sunbeams bursting from a setting sun

When I was a kid, I was raised in a tradition of reward and punishment, a religious mindset that put people into categories of good and evil, of chosen and not chosen. I knew myself to be in the evil category, and was praised for that knowledge. I hid my knowledge that I was not chosen.

But when I was 28 years old and in deep despair after a miscarriage, the beauty and honor of human life became perfectly evident to me. I was so sad about the loss of my child and so aware of her inherent worth that my old views began to tremble.

That night, I had a powerful dream. I was in a green forest with an expanse of grass sloping down to a deeply flowing stream. Near the stream stood immense, rooted trees growing tall and strong. And a lion paced evenly along the banks.

I was so thirsty and wanted to drink so badly, but I was afraid of the lion. He looked at me, almost as if daring me to drink, and I rushed down to the river and plunged my hands and face into the water. I could hear the lion’s voice speaking, “Of course I chose you! Of course you are good. Of course I love you. Drink all you like!”

That moment began a spiritual awakening process that continues to this day. My message to each one who crosses Awaken Coach Institute’s path is the same, “Of course I chose you.” You are uniquely lovable, just the way you are. And your life is meant to be a blessing. You are perfectly imperfect, and you belong here.

The Role of a Spiritual Awakening Coach

Becoming a spiritual awakening coach is a brave, loving, and deeply personal journey. It’s about walking with others on their spiritual path, towards self-discovery and a more fulfilled life. A spiritual coach is like a lantern holder in the night, illuminating the way, yet allowing each person to walk their path at their pace.

We aim to create a warm, trusting, and safe space that allows individuals to explore their authentic selves without fear. We believe in the inherent wisdom in every person and encourage them to listen to their intuition, to question their thoughts, and align their behaviors with their values.

Our goal is to foster empathy, self-compassion, and kindness in a world often marked by criticism and defensiveness.

As a spiritual coach, we recognize the importance of maintaining healthy boundaries. It's about respecting our own limits while honoring those of others, nurturing relationships founded on mutual respect and understanding. It's not just about navigating life's challenges but embracing the ebbs and flows with grace and resilience.

Emotional integration is a key aspect of our coaching philosophy. Rather than suppressing emotions that society often labels as negative, we encourage the acceptance and understanding of all emotions. They are part of the rich tapestry of human experience, each one holding a message, a lesson.

In our journey towards becoming a spiritual awakening coach, we learn to listen, really listen, to ourselves and to others. We learn the power of silence, of stillness and meditation. And in that quiet space, we find room for authentic conversations, for deep connections.

One of the most transformative aspects of this journey is the cultivation of healthy relationships and learning to navigate the dynamics of human interactions with kindness and understanding.

Borrowing from John Gottman's relationship dynamics, we can guide others in their personal process of overcoming the Four Horsemen of Criticism, Contempt, Defensiveness, and Stonewalling and replacing them with their antidotes.

We strive to replace criticism with a gentle start-up, contempt with affection and admiration, defensiveness with taking responsibility, and stonewalling with self-soothing skills.

Spiritual Healing in Coaching

The journey of becoming a spiritual life coach requires an intimate understanding of the nuances of the spiritual side of healing. This process unfolds beyond the physical, reaching into the very essence of the human spirit.

Spiritual healing, at its core, isn't about treating symptoms or ailments but about honoring the wholeness of our clients. Their strengths, their struggles, their fears, and their dreams are acknowledged and respected. As coaches, our role isn't to heal but to facilitate. We provide a safe space—a crucible for spiritual practice and transformation where our clients feel seen, heard, and understood.

Insight Before Action and Mindfulness in Practice

At Awaken Coach Institute, we encourage insight before action. It's about aligning emotions with beliefs, striving to create harmony within ourselves and a deeper connection in our relationships. Through this transformative process, we are aware that we’re not seeing the world not as it is, but as we are, opening up pathways for deeper connections and fulfilling lives.

Embodying the principles of mindfulness and spiritual growth, we learn to live in the present, fully aware and appreciative of the simple yet profound moments in everyday life. We come to understand that our spiritual gifts, our inherent abilities and strengths, can be used to infuse everyday actions with deep meaning and purpose.

With every step we take on this spiritual journey, we understand more about our true nature. It’s like peeling back layers of an onion, revealing our core Self—a source of all energy, profound wisdom, love, and inner peace. This self-knowledge then becomes a compass, guiding us through life’s complexities and toward our soul's purpose.

Embodying the Principles We Advocate

Coaching others toward their spiritual awakening involves more than just theoretical knowledge.

It's about embodying the principles we advocate. It involves questioning your thoughts, aligning behaviors with values, aligning emotions with beliefs, and integrating all aspects of oneself. It's about practicing self-care and extending that same sense of care to the community, fostering relationships grounded in empathy and respect.

Part of the path to becoming a spiritual life coach is recognizing the need for rest and play, for silence and stillness. This calm state allows us to tap into our higher consciousness, where insights flow freely and intuition guides our decisions.

Creativity plays a central role in our approach to spiritual coaching. Every person is unique, with their unique experiences, strengths, and challenges. As such, each spiritual journey is unique, calling for a unique approach, a blend of knowledge, intuition, creativity, and empathy.

In this role, we serve as sacred conversation holders, creating brave spaces for people to explore their beliefs, fears, dreams, and emotions. Through powerful questioning and active listening skills, we help others gain clarity, make empowering decisions, and align their lives with their deepest values.

The Continuous Journey of the Spiritual Awakening Coach

Becoming a spiritual awakening coach is not just about accompanying others on their journey. It's an inward journey of our own, one that transforms the coach as deeply as the coachee.

As we stand alongside those moving towards spiritual awakening and spiritual growth, we too continue to awaken, grow, and evolve ourselves. This is the beauty and honor of being a spiritual life coach.

Ultimately, a spiritual life coach is a beacon of light in a world that often struggles in the shadows of confusion, despair, and disconnection. We have a sacred responsibility in helping others move towards a more loving, compassionate, and awakened consciousness, creating a ripple effect of positive change in the world.

As we support others in their spiritual journeys, we too continue to grow and evolve, contributing to a more enlightened and compassionate world. It is a path of the heart, of human connection, and of the very essence of our shared humanity. It is a deep passion, a calling that reverberates deep within the soul, a calling to serve, to heal, and to love.
